Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sanchez ruthlessly mocked by The Devil Wears Prada 2 with subtle detail

It’s only days until the new Devil Wears Prada movie is set to hit the big screen, and one plot line has seemingly garnered huge attention due to its similarities with Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez

The Devil Wears Prada 2 has been making headlines following its star-studded premieres this week, with A-listers turning out to celebrate the long-awaited sequel.

In the new movie, Miranda Priestly, played by Meryl Streep, is fighting to keep her magazine business going as print declines. Her former assistant Emily Charlton – played by Emily Blunt – is now a senior figure in fashion and competing with her for advertising revenue. Meanwhile, Vogue Editor-in-Chief Anna Wintour showed her face at the Devil Wears Prada 2 film premiere in New York City on Monday, April 20.

The iconic 76-year-old fashion editor, who’s said to be the inspiration behind Meryl Streep’s biting character Miranda Priestly in the Devil Wears Prada film series, attended the movie event looking stylish with her signature bob hairstyle and large dark sunglasses.

Emily’s character is shown working for Christian Dior and is in a relationship with a billionaire tech boss played by Justin Theroux.

Reports claim the character is a mix of Jeff Bezos and Elon Musk, which has led to comparisons between Emily’s new lifestyle and Lauren Sánchez. The storyline nods to long-running rumours that Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez considered buying Condé Nast, Vogue’s publisher. A 2025 Vogue digital cover of Sánchez Bezos was also seen by some as a subtle gesture toward that speculation, though she has denied any plans, saying, “I wish!”

However, a representative for Blunt denied this, telling Variety the claims are “absolutely not true.”

It comes amid recent backlash over the involvement of Jeff Bezos and Lauren Sánchez in the 2026 Met Gala. As the first Monday in May approaches, reports suggest the price of attending the event is starting to fall.

The Met Gala—held each year in aid of the Metropolitan Museum of Art Costume Institute—is famous for its sky-high ticket costs. In 2025, tables were priced at $350,000, while individual tickets reached $75,000. However, those figures are now said to be dropping.

This year’s event will also mark a major change, as it will be the first Met Gala since Anna Wintour stepped down as editor-in-chief of Vogue after decades at the helm.

“Prices are coming down because they have to. Designers aren’t buying like they used to,” said one source to journalist Rob Shuter, “The demand just isn’t there.” This reveal comes in the wake of posters appearing across New York City calling to boycott the Gala.

The insider claimed that Vogue is losing influence, saying “Vogue doesn’t control the conversation anymore. And if Vogue isn’t essential, neither is the Met Gala,” they continued.

“You paid because Anna mattered,” added another source, “Her approval could make careers overnight. That kind of power? It’s fading fast.”

The Devil Wears Prada 2 is the long-awaited sequel to the 2006 hit, arriving nearly 20 years later with much of the original cast returning.

The film reunites Meryl Streep as Miranda Priestly, Anne Hathaway as Andy Sachs, and Emily Blunt as Emily Charlton, alongside Stanley Tucci. It’s directed by David Frankel, who also helmed the original. It will premiere in cinemas on May 1.
