Ridley Scott‘s post-apocalyptic sci-fi movie The Dog Stars, featuring Josh Brolin and Jacob Elordi, gets its first-look photos. The movie is an adaptation of Peter Heller’s 2012 novel of the same name.
Mark L. Smith and Christopher Wilkinson penned the screenplay. Elordi portrays Hig, a pilot who flies a single-engine Cessna called The Beast and lives with a dog named Jasper, while Brolin stars as Bangley, a taciturn gun expert. The cast also includes Margaret Qualley as Cima, Guy Pearce as Pops, and Benedict Wong.

Esquire recently shared an exclusive first look at The Dog Stars. The images from the movie show Elordi, Brolin, and Qualley’s characters.
Speaking to the outlet, Scott explained what sets The Dog Stars apart from other post-apocalyptic features, including his own Blade Runner. “I think there’ve been rather too many apocalyptic movies,” Scott said. “And I think I started off with a pretty tough one doing Blade Runner years ago. There was no end to the grimness of Blade Runner. In this, what I’m so pleased that came off was the strong feeling of hope. ‘It’ll be okay.’ If you do the right thing, it calls to mind the expression: God helps those who help themselves.”
Scott added that the movie will surprise, engage, and charm the audience. The official log line for the movie reads, “After the world’s population has been ravaged by a pandemic, a man lives a lonesome existence in a Colorado airplane hangar with his dog and a dour gunman he has befriended. When a mysterious transmission comes through on the radio while he’s flying his old Cessna, it sparks a hunt for the provenance of the sound.”
Previously, The Dog Stars was scheduled to be released on March 27, 2026. It will now come out in US theaters on August 28.
