The bail variation application for British and Fijian citizen Charlie Charters to travel to the UK for his uncle’s funeral and reside and work in Hong Kong has been approved by the Suva Magistrates Court.
Charters appeared before Magistrate Shageeth Somaratne this morning.
FICAC had objected to the application calling Charters a flight risk, but Magistrate Somaratne says Charters travelled to Australia last month for work and returned to Fiji and did not abscond.
Magistrate Somaratne has ordered for the stop departure order to be lifted on 10th April, and the applicant’s travel documents to be returned to him as well.
He also warned Charters that the trial will continue on his absence.
The Court has told Charters not to interfere with witnesses or commit a crime.
A bail bond of $50,000 has been set for the sureties.
