Martin Scorsese’s New Mafia Movie Gets Exciting Update

Martin Scorsese may be shooting two new films this year, one of them potentially being a mafia movie called Midnight Vendetta.

Known for making movies like Goodfellas, The Wolf of Wall Street, and many more, Scorsese’s most recent movie is Killers of the Flower Moon, which was released in 2023. He’s currently filming a new thriller movie, titled What Happens at Night, that stars Leonardo DiCaprio, Jennifer Lawrence, Mads Mikkelsen, Patricia Clarkson, and Jared Harris.

What is the update on the new Martin Scorsese mafia movie?

What Happens at Night might not be the only movie that Scorsese films this year, however. Per World of Reel, it seems that he might begin shooting a mafia movie titled Midnight Vendetta in December, as USA Production, Production Weekly, and Production List all have posted casting grids for the potential film.

It is worth noting that Production List’s post says the shoot date is December 2025 rather than December 2026, though this may just be a typo. All three sites say the movie will be filmed in New Orleans.

Whether or not any of this actually winds up happening remains to be seen, as there’s been no official announcement from Scorsese or any production company about a production start date for Midnight Vendetta. Scorsese still has a number of projects that he wants to make, so it’s not definitively clear as of yet if Midnight Vendetta will truly be his next film after What Happens at Night.

The project summary for Midnight Vendetta that’s posted on Production List reads, “A historical crime drama centered on the arrival of Sicilian mafia in New Orleans around 1890, culminating in the assassination of Police Chief David Hennessy and subsequent mass lynching.”

Neither What Happens at Night, which will be distributed by Apple Original Films, nor Midnight Vendetta have release dates at this time.
