Andrew Garfield Reacts to ‘Absolutely Ludicrous’ Spider-Man 4 Trailer Rumor

Andrew Garfield called a rumor circulating about the recently released trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day “absolutely ludicrous” during an interview. There have been a lot of speculations about his potential appearance in the upcoming MCU movie. Last month, Garfield even shared his reaction to the trailer.

Andrew Garfield reveals if he was edited out of Spider-Man 4 trailer

Andrew Garfield clears the air on whether his iteration of Spider-Man was removed from the Brand New Day trailer through editing. During an interview with Capital FM, Garfield faced almost inevitable questions about his potential involvement in Spider-Man 4.

When asked whether Marvel edited him and Tobey Maguire out of the scene where the titular superhero fights characters believed to be the Hand, Garfield retorted, “This feels like a reach, to be honest. What do you mean there’s room for other characters? There’s literally just space underneath Spider-Man. They’re all heading to Spider-Man. Well, there’s room for more characters in every frame of the film, probably!

The two-time Oscar Nominee called the rumor “insane,” before adding, “This is absolutely ludicrous, conspiracy theory-level attempts at like investigative journalism. You’ve lost your damn minds!”

Garfield then mysteriously noted, “You notice I didn’t say that I wasn’t in it, though, right? Or am I a traitor?” Likely reflecting on the questions he has fielded about portraying Spider-Man in several new projects about the superhero, The Magic Faraway Tree star predicted, “I’ll be 98 years old and they’ll be making Spider-Man 78, and people will be like, ‘So, Andrew?’ And I’ll be like, you know, urinating into a colostomy bag.”

At the time of this article’s writing, speculations about Garfield’s involvement in Brand New Day remain persistent. The confirmed cast includes Tom Holland as Peter Parker / Spider-Man and Zendaya as Michelle “MJ” Jones-Watson. Destin Daniel Cretton directed the feature.

Spider-Man: Brand New Day debuts in US theaters on July 31, 2026.
