Positioned as a key hub within BorgWarner’s China new energy strategy, the Wuhu facility will primarily supply electric drive motors to Chery. Leveraging the company’s global product architecture and expertise in hairpin motor development, manufacturing processes, and production line engineering, the site is designed to deliver high-performance, next-generation e-motors at scale. The move reflects a broader push by global Tier 1 suppliers to localize advanced EV component production in close proximity to Chinese automakers.
Li Xiaoqiu, Vice President and General Manager Asia, BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems, said the launch of the Wuhu plant underscores both the company’s ongoing expansion in electrified powertrain systems and its emphasis on operational efficiency and product quality. The executive added that BorgWarner will continue to collaborate with industry partners to advance technological innovation and support the transition toward a more sustainable automotive ecosystem.
