Jane Fonda asks why Barbra Streisand paid Oscars tribute to Robert Redford and not her
Jane Fonda, the legendary actress who collaborated with Robert Redford on four occasions, joked to ET that she should have been the one giving the tribute to Robert Redford instead of Barbara Streisand, because she had more to say.
“I want to know how come Streisand was up there doing that for Redford?” she said to Entertainment Tonight. She added, “She only made one movie with him; I made four! I have more to say.”
Though Fonda could not talk about Redford on the stage during the Oscars 2026’s In Memoriam segment, the Barbarella star still spoke about Redford while talking to ET. “I was always in love with him,” Fond said of Redford, “The most gorgeous human being and such great values. And he did a lot for movies, he really changed movies, lifted up independent movies.”
Fonda worked with Redford in Our Souls at Night, The Electric Horseman, Barefoot in the Park, and The Chase.
Meanwhile, Barbra Streisand, who shared the screen with Robert Redford in The Way We Were, also gave a heartfelt tribute to the actor in the speech at the Oscars. “Now, Bob had real backbone on and off the screen,” Streisand said (via The Hollywood Reporter), “He spoke up to defend freedom of the press, protect the environment, and encouraged new voices at his Sundance Institute — some of whom are up for Oscars tonight, which is so great. He was thoughtful and bold. I called him an intellectual cowboy who blazed his own trail. … I miss him now more than ever, even though he loved teasing me.”
