After shocking F1 fans and the grid alike in Bahrain with a bizarre ‘upside down’ rear wing, many were wondering when, or if, we would ever see the radical innovation again in 2026.

And we may have our answer, as after reports in the Italian media, GPblog investigated the matter and understands that three different specifications of the concept will be shipped to Shanghai this weekend for the Chinese GP, even though the element was already part of the team’s available pool.

With only one hour of practice at the season’s first Sprint event, it remains unclear what Ferrari’s plan is.

The Scuderia could choose to run the wing during FP1 and then decide whether to carry it through the rest of the weekend, or alternatively they may shelve it for the time being in order to gather more data before introducing it properly at upcoming rounds.

One thing is for sure though, all eyes will be on the Italian team to see if we can catch a glimpse of one of F1’s most spectacular innovations.

Alpine have responded to rumours linking Mercedes boss Toto Wolff with a minority stake in the Renault-owned F1 team, the same stake reportedly sought after by old rival Christian Horner.

Mercedes told GPblog that they were “being kept apprised of the latest developments” at “key strategic partner” Alpine, but only until now have the French team commented on the rumours.

When asked for comment by GPblog on Wolff’s reported interest, Alpine said: “The team is regularly approached and contacted by multiple parties and potential investors.

“We do not comment on any specific names or individuals in question. Any discussions are not a matter for the team, they’re between the current stakeholders and parties expressing an interest.”
