Sami Raimi Teamed up With Rachel McAdams Again After 1 Doctor Strange 2 Scene

Veteran director Sam Raimi recently worked with Rachel McAdams in Send Help, the director’s latest signature feature. But before that, Raimi already knew he wanted to work with McAdams for this film, thanks to one particular scene in their previous collaboration, Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness.

Sam Raimi, known for his portrayal of horror on screen, was left thoroughly impressed by Rachel McAdams in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. Raimi recalled a particular standout scene with McAdams that convinced him that he would like to work with her again in the future.

Speaking to Entertainment Weekly, Raimi explained that the scene in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, where Doctor Strange attempted to dreamwalk into Sinister Strange, was the one where he was convinced of McAdams’ acting. In the scene, specters appeared due to Strange’s tampering with dark magic, and they attacked McAdams’ Christine Palmer.

But the action sequence involving McAdams was shot later during reshoots. “I had to say things to her like, ‘Do you mind [if] there’s gonna be a ghost attack sequence, and you’re assaulted by these ghosts?’” he recalled to EW, “I expected a little chagrin, but she said, ‘Okay, what do we do?’”

Raimi further recalled how into the scene McAdams was. “She put so much gusto into it and authenticity that she made the ghost scene work,” he continued, “I had great animators to help, but she made that work as well as her character stuff. I thought, I’m gonna work with this person again.”

So, this ultimately led to Raimi approaching McAdams for his next big project, Send Help, which stars the Notebook actress as an employee of a company’s Planning & Strategy Department, who gets stuck with her new CEO on an isolated island.

Send Help is now playing in theatres.
