Jurgen Klopp’s potential return to football management has been a hot topic ever since the German stepped away from the touchline in May 2024. The ex-Liverpool boss would reportedly only consider two jobs if he were ever to dip his toe back into being a manager.
The 58-year-old spent nine years at Anfield, where he transformed the Reds into Premier League and Champions League winners. After already working miracles at Borussia Dortmund previously, it’s been reported that Klopp wouldn’t go back to any of his old clubs.
Instead, he could have his eyes on two of the biggest roles in world football. The entire football world was shocked when Klopp announced he would be leaving Liverpool in January 2024, with the tactician citing a lack of energy as his main reason.
Jurgen Klopp ‘Considering’ Real Madrid Job
Klopp spent six months out of the game completely before taking up the role of Head of Global Soccer at Red Bull. In fact, the iconic manager made the huge claim that he may never return to the dugout.
However, Sky Germany journalist Florian Plettenburg has made the sensational claim that Klopp is ‘seriously considering’ becoming the Real Madrid manager. He was first linked to the role after Xabi Alonso’s shock departure earlier this week.
While it’s maintained that Klopp is ‘happy’ and ‘has a strong identification’ with the Red Bull project, he could still be tempted if Los Blancos make a move for him in the summer.
Plettenburg also claimed that one other role could persuade him to dust off his tracksuit ‘if EVERYTHING fits’. The German national team. International football has a much more laid-back schedule than club management, which could be a huge positive for Klopp.
Klopp’s Interesting Response to Xabi Alonso’s Sacking
Earlier this week, Klopp was asked about Alonso’s Real Madrid dismissal. Despite the latest reports about his interest in taking over at the Bernabeu, his answer appeared to imply the exact opposite. He said:
“First of all, I think it’s another sign that something isn’t quite right there at the moment. If Xabi Alonso, who over the last two years in Leverkusen has shown what an outstanding coaching talent he is – and I think at his age and with the number of jobs he’s had, you can say that – is then forced to leave Madrid just six months later, it shows a few things. On the one hand, it shows that nowadays there’s no time anymore. On the other, the expectations at Real Madrid are obviously enormous.”
