Trump predicts 2026 midterms elections will focus on pricing, claims GOP will lower costs

President Donald Trump predicted that the 2026 midterm elections will center around “pricing” as members of the GOP must face the control of Congress on the line during the Congress.

Trump told POLITICO on Friday night that he believes Americans will be receptive to the messaging. The messaging surrounding the Trump administration is cleaning up the mess that the Biden administration left.

“I think it’s going to be about the success of our country. It’ll be about pricing,” Trump said in an exclusive interview with POLITICO. “Because, you know, they gave us high pricing, and we’re bringing it down. Energy’s way down. Gasoline is way down.”

His comments come from a string of favorable economic reports over the past few weeks, with data showing that inflation is slowing and the US economy is better than expected.

However, national polls reflect a different American reality; many are still struggling. Nearly half of POLITICO poll respondents found they struggled to pay for groceries, utility bills, health care, housing and transportation fees.

“Electricity is down. It’s way down,” Trump said. “You know, when the gasoline goes down, and when the oil and oil and gas go down, the electricity comes down naturally. But it’s all coming down. It’s all coming down. It’s coming beautifully.”

On Wednesday, the White House touted surprisingly good GDP growth, fueling Trump with more positive news.
