The home side had to cope without Belotti, Ze Pedro, Felici, Liteta and Luvumbo, while Pisa had travelled to Sardinia without Stengs, Cuadrado, Nzola, Akinsanmiro and Nzola.

Gaetano had the first chance in the game for Cagliari, but his curler to finalise a counter-attack was wide of the far post.

Tramoni replied for Pisa, but his shot from an excellent position was too weak, allowing Elia Caprile to save with his feet. Simone Canestrelli tried to score with a sensational backheel attempt from a corner kick and didn’t get the big target with Caprile standing still watching the ball.

Cagliari’s Semih Kılıçsoy, making his first Serie A start, curled an effort wide, but he’d soon find better accuracy.

Pisa took the lead seconds before the break when Michel Adopo blocked a Matteo Tramoni attack by unintentionally touching the ball with his left arm. Tramoni converted the spot-kick, but the Cagliari reaction was strong after the break.

Folorunsho levelled the score before the hour mark with a diving header from a Gabriele Zappa cross from the right.

A few minutes later, a similar move produced a chance to score for Alessandro Deiola, but this time the Cagliari midfielder miskicked the ball, sending it wide of the near post.

Kılıçsoy netted his first Serie A goal with a brilliant curling effort into the far corner from the edge of the area as Cagliari appeared firmly in control. Luca Mazzitelli had the chance to make it two, but his long-range attempt drifted wide.

Pisa’s Lorran made a good impact off the bench, although his close-range effort drifted wide to Caprile’s right. Pisa’s equaliser, however, arrived at minute 88 when Leris fired a low, driven ball into the box that Moreo met with a first-time finish after peeling away from the Cagliari defenders.

Pisa even had chances to win it, first through Leris and then Meister: the former slid an effort just wide, while Meister stuck the outside of the net from a tight angle in stoppage time.
