Fire breaks out at flat in Hong Kong’s Tin Shui Wai, 1 injured and 200 evacuated

A fire broke out at a flat in a public housing estate in Hong Kong’s Tin Shui Wai early on Saturday, leaving a man severely injured, with more than 200 residents evacuated.

Authorities received multiple calls at 3.43am on Saturday from residents reporting the blaze at Tin Chak Estate in Tin Shui Wai, with occasional sounds of explosions.

Firefighters rushed to the scene and rescued a man living in the flat on fire. He was found conscious but later fell into a coma after being rushed to Tuen Mun Hospital. He sustained burns on 20 per cent of his skin.

A total of 11 men and 12 women were evacuated by firefighters, while more than 200 others left their flats of their own accord.

The blaze was subsequently extinguished and residents returned to their flats.
