Sergey Brin Overtakes Jeff Bezos As No. 4 Richest

Topline

Google cofounder and Alphabet board member Sergey Brin on Tuesday overtook Amazon founder Jeff Bezos for the title of world’s fourth-richest person, as Google Gemini’s artificial intelligence successes rally Alphabet’s shares.

Key Facts

Alphabet’s shares closed Tuesday up slightly more than 1%, to $317, adding to a 30-day 10% rise as Gemini’s latest model helped propel the stock.

Amazon posted a more modest gain of just under 0.5%.

Since its release in November, Google’s Gemini 3 model has surprised investors, outperforming ChatGPT-maker OpenAI’s best AI models on industry benchmarks like trivia, math and coding.

Google Gemini’s AI progress was also achieved without using the coveted Nvidia graphics processing unit chips for training, gaining support from investors who have been concerned about a potential AI bubble.

Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth announced Tuesday that the department was selecting Google’s Gemini for the development of its generative AI platform.

Both the Dow Jones and the S&P 500 were down Tuesday, while the Nasdaq was up 0.13%.

Forbes Valuation

Brin’s estimated net worth grew to $240 billion, a $2.4 billion increase from Monday. He now ranks ahead of Bezos, whose fortune is estimated at $239.9 billion. Elon Musk, Larry Ellison and Larry Page take up the top three, though Musk remains the world’s richest person by far, with an estimated net worth of about $491 billion.
