She also offered a glimpse into how the family is finding strength and gratitude during this time.
Emma Heming talks ‘joyous’ holidays with husband Bruce Willis
Emma Heming Willis told PEOPLE, at the End Well 2025 conference, about how she’s looking forward to spending the holiday season with her husband Bruce Willis and their family. “It’s joyous. It’s just different,” she shared. “Bruce loved Christmas, and we love celebrating it with him. It just looks different, so we’ve kind of adapted to that.” Onstage, at the conference, Emma discussed care for dementia patients with Yvette Nicole Brown.
In 2022, the now-retired actor was diagnosed with aphasia and frontotemporal dementia, after which his family announced that he will step away from acting. Emma began spreading awareness about FTD through social media, interviews, and also wrote a book called The Unexpected Journey: Finding Strength, Hope, and Yourself on the Caregiving Path. “I think it’s important to put Die Hard on because it’s a Christmas movie,” she told the outlet, while acknowledging that the holidays can be hard for the families of dementia patients.
“You have to learn and adapt and make new memories, bring in the same traditions that you had before. Life goes on. It just goes on,” Emma added. “Dementia is hard, but there is still joy in it. I think it’s important that we don’t paint such a negative picture around dementia. We are still laughing. There is still joy. It just looks different,” she shared. Further, she also spoke about how the family’s life always has been simple, saying, “I think that just being able to be present with him, that is the joy. Me being able to be his wife with him. Those are the moments.”
