TOPS Nashville members learn about daily protein needs and healthy eating goals

The Nov. 12 meeting included weight-loss tips, KOPS recognition and a program explaining how adults and seniors can calculate their recommended protein intake.

Rush was the best weekly KOPS and gave tips for the Easy as A B C: 26-Day Healthy Eating Contest.

Gay Keller gave a program titled Understanding Daily Protein Needs for Adults, Seniors from The Bargain Hunter. To determine how
many grams of protein someone needs, multiply their ideal weight by 0.04. A woman under 65 needs 50-70 grams a day, and a man
under 65 needs 60-80 grams. Older adults require almost double the protein combined
with strength training twice a week to maintain muscle mass and health.

The club meets at the Nashville Global Methodist Church Wednesdays at 5:30 p.m., with weigh-in at 5 p.m. The first meeting is free.
