Health experts call for nationwide screening, lifestyle changes

ISLAMABAD, Nov 16 (APP): The leading health experts have stressed that the rapidly accelerating number warrants immediate intervention through nationwide screening programmes and regulatory changes to promote healthier lifestyles.

In a seminar held here at CDA Hospital in connection with the World Diabetes Day, the speakers underscored how the country now has one of the highest age-standardised diabetes prevalences globally, at over 31 percent, said a press release.

The event which brought together endocrinologists, public health experts, and policymakers highlighted the growing diabetes crisis in Pakistan, where more than 34.5 million adults (about one in three) are living with the disease, according to WHO.

Speaking at the inaugural session, Chairman CDA Randhawa emphasised that patients must remain the foremost priority for all healthcare providers.

Prof. Dr. Naeem Taj highlighted the hospital’s commitment to delivering quality and compassionate care, stressing the importance of continued innovation, research and the expansion of specialised services to strengthen Capital Hospital’s role as a centre of excellence.

Dr. Sarwar Malik spoke on diabetes awareness and prevention, outlining ongoing efforts to curb the disease at the community level. The programme concluded with an awareness walk.
