A Memphis Business Academy football coach was arrested on Oct. 30 for charges related to an alleged drug trafficking conspiracy in the Mississippi Delta, according to court records.
Torio Chaz Wiseman, the football coach for both the high school and middle school teams at the Memphis Business Academy, was charged with four felonies related to his alleged involvement in the drug trafficking conspiracy.
According to the indictment, Wiseman and over a dozen others were arrested for their role in a trafficking scheme that involved law enforcement officers moving cocaine through Mississippi up to Memphis. Fourteen of the 19 individuals arrested were law enforcement officers in Mississippi. One individual had their charges dropped shortly after the indictment was announced.
What does the indictment claim?
The indictment alleges that officers provided armed escorts to undercover agents posing as Mexican Cartel drug traffickers on at least three occasions between 2023-24.
Wiseman was granted bond on Oct. 30, the same day he was arrested.
The Commercial Appeal tried reaching MBA Athletic Director Jerry Anthony for comment and did not hear back. It was not immediately clear if Wiseman was still employed by the school.
Wiseman’s arrest comes just days ahead of the beginning of the TSSAA Class 2A playoffs.
MBA finished the regular season with a 6-4 record and is scheduled to travel to Huntingdon on Nov. 7 at 7 p.m. for the beginning of the postseason. Wiseman had coached the Execs to the state quarterfinals in each of the previous two seasons.
Wiseman was hired by MBA in 2023.
