Donald Trump insisted on Monday that the US would become ‘almost a third-world nation’ if his expansive global tariffs were deemed illegal by the Supreme Court. The POTUS insisted that the levies had brought “great wealth and national security” during his nine-month tenure — noting the use of tariffs to negotiate with China and other countries. The Trump administration will be facing off against a slew of small businesses and several states that contend most of the tariffs are illegal and should be struck down.
“If a President is not allowed to use Tariffs, we will be at a major disadvantage against all other Countries throughout the World, especially the “Majors.” In a true sense, we would be defenseless! Tariffs have brought us Great Wealth and National Security in the nine months that I have had the Honor to serve as President. The Stock Market has hit all-time highs many times during my short time in Office, with virtually No Inflation, and National Security that is second to none,” Trump insisted via Truth Social.
He opined that the case — slated to begin on Wednesday — would be one of the most important in American history. Trump explained that he would not be going to court ensure that nothing distracted from the “importance of this decision”.
If we win, we will be the Richest, Most Secure Country anywhere in the World, BY FAR. If we lose, our Country could be reduced to almost Third World status — Pray to God that that doesn’t happen! If a President was not able to quickly and nimbly use the power of Tariffs, we would be defenseless, leading perhaps even to the ruination of our Nation. The only people fighting us are Foreign Countries who for years have taken advantage of us, those who hate our Country and, the Democrats, because our numbers are insurmountably good,” he added.
Trump also highlighted recently struck trade deals with China and other nations to underscore his point — insisting that only the tariffs had allowed America to maintain a strong position. The Supreme Court verdict can potentially upend his global trade strategy and the many agreements and amendments that followed. The government would also likely have to refund at least a portion of the money collected through these taxes on imports.
