Aldi, Home Bargains, M&S and Tesco UK supermarket recalls

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) has issued a series of ‘do not eat’ warnings.

Customers who have purchased any of the affected items are advised to check the batch codes or ‘best before’ dates.

If there is an issue, the products can be returned to the shop where they were bought for a refund.

Included in the recalls is a warning to pet owners over a dog food brand potentially contaminated with Salmonella, causing a health risk to the dogs eating it and the humans handling it.

Home Bargains recall

Chocolate sold in Home Bargains is being recalled because it contains allergens which are not mentioned on the label in English.

Parent company TJ Morris is recalling Milka Hazelnut (90g), Milka Whole Nut (95g) and Milka Oreo Brownie chocolate (100g) because allergens are not declared in English on the label.

This means the product is a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents, an allergy to hazelnuts, (nuts) and/or soya, and/or an allergy or intolerance to wheat or gluten, or with coeliac disease.

The UK supermarket giant has recalled steak and custard tarts due to undeclared ingredients in each.

This means the products are a possible health risk for anyone with allergies.

Shoppers have been urged to return the products by the Food Standards Agency.

The steaks being recalled are the Ashfields 30 Day matured thin cut beef steaks , with a pack size of 360g and a use-by of October 26.

The recall is due to it containing milk, which is not mentioned on the label due to a packaging error.

The Food Standards Agency (FSA) says the product is now a possible health risk for anyone with an allergy or intolerance to milk or milk constituents.

The custard tarts being recalled are the PYB02 PANATAS part-baked six-pack of custard tarts.

This is due to them containing egg, milk and wheat (gluten), as well as possibly containing hazelnuts, sesame and soya, which are not mentioned on the label.

What is a product recall?

If there is a problem with a food product that means it should not be sold, then it might be ‘withdrawn’ (taken off the shelves) or ‘recalled’ (when customers are asked to return the product).

The FSA issues Product Withdrawal Information Notices and Product Recall Information Notices to let consumers and local authorities know about problems associated with food.

In some cases, a ‘Food Alert for Action’ is issued.

This provides local authorities with details of specific actions to be taken on behalf of consumers.
