‘I have just been at a superb CBSO concert – the Jussen Bros playing Poulenc double piano concerto at Symphony Hall.
‘It would have been electrifying, but for three things: mobile phones filming near me; a mobile phone going off twice during the quiet passages; and an infuriating high-pitched whistling hearing aid all the way through the piano concerto which the management did nothing about until the interval. The Poulenc was all but ruined.
‘Ushers informed me they have been instructed by CBSO management NOT to use the “table tennis bat” signs forbidding mobile phones – because “the CBSO management wants to encourage photographs and videos”. The “no mobile phones” signs are used at all other orchestral concerts except CBSO, I was told.’
