Antonio Cassano: Italian football has become a spiritless game

Italian football legend Antonio Cassano expressed strong dissatisfaction with the current state of the national championship – Serie A. In his opinion, the quality of matches in the league has declined so much that it has become difficult for fans to watch them.

Cassano made these remarks after the third round of the Champions League. Of the four Italian clubs, only Inter won this round – the Milanese defeated Union 4-0. Napoli suffered a heavy 2-6 defeat against PSV, Juventus lost 0-1 to Real Madrid, and Atalanta drew goalless with Slavia.

“The Italian championship is in a deplorable state right now. He had no feelings left. Serie A lives only thanks to the love and loyalty of the fans. But the quality of football is very low, this is a shameful situation. Watching some games is torturous, because there’s no rhythm, no dynamics, and there’s a lot of lifeless dribbling,” said Cassano.

According to him, Italian clubs have also lost their traditional power in European tournaments. While Inter’s victory is an exception, the remaining teams are struggling to compete in Europe. This is due to the slow pace and lack of creative players in the domestic championship.

Football experts also partially supported Cassano’s opinion – they say that in Serie A, defensive playing style has strengthened in recent years, while attacking creativity has declined. This leads to a lag behind European standards.

For information, Antonio Cassano has previously played for clubs like Roma, AC Milan, and Inter Milan, and is also remembered for his brilliant performances for the Italian national team. Today, he expresses serious concern about the future of Italian football, believing that “real reforms are needed to revive Serie A.”
