If there’s one brand that all long-time Android users know, it’s HTC. Technically, HTC never went away, but most people have forgotten about it. Seemingly out of nowhere, a whole new line of HTC Wildfire phones was just shown off.
You wouldn’t be alone in wondering what HTC could possibly bring to the table in 2025. The company has done very little in the mobile space over the last five years. A recent leak from the GITEX 2025, a tech exhibition in Dubai, shows the company is may be plotting a return with a host of new Wildfire series models. Mobile phone researcher Yasuhiro Yamane shared images of the unannounced devices, and that probably means an announcement is coming soon.
There could be up to a whopping six models in total, but the most intriguing of the bunch is a “budget gaming phone.” It sports a flashy back panel accented with red—you know, because it’s a gaming phone. What’s powering this device is a Unisoc T765 chipset, and it’s paired with a beefy 5,600mAh battery. The concept of a “budget” gaming phone is a bit odd since the whole point of gaming phones is usually to provide horsepower for intensive games.
On the camera front, you’re looking at a 50MP primary sensor on the rear and a 16MP camera up front for all your selfie needs. Beyond those key specs, the details are still very minimal, but the fact that HTC is even trying to field a budget gaming phone is pretty interesting.
Yasuhiro’s photos show at least four other Wildfire variants, each rocking a unique rear camera module design, suggesting a wide-ranging, if slightly confusing, strategy. There’s even a rugged phone thrown into the mix, which is not something we’ve seen very much as of late.
We’ll be keeping our eyes peeled over the next few weeks for more information. HTC is clearly not the same company that it was back in its heyday. Devices such as the HTC One M8, HTC Droid Incredible, and even the very first Android phone, the T-Mobile G1, were incredibly popular. And HTC Sense was the first truly good Android skin. These new devices may be HTC in name alone.
