Domenico Tedesco has been officially announced as the new head coach of Turkish Super Lig giants Fenerbahce, replacing former Inter and Roma boss Jose Mourinho in Istanbul.

Fenerbahce have been on the hunt for a new head coach after parting company with Mourinho at the end of August following the team’s 1-0 aggregate defeat against Benfica in the Champions League play-off round, which cost the Turkish side a place in the final tournament.

Ultimately, Fenerbahce have decided to go with Tedesco instead. The Italian, who largely grew up in Germany, has been available since the start of the year after being dismissed from his role as head coach of the Belgium national team.

“Domenico Tedesco has been appointed the head coach of our club’s professional football A team,” a statement from Fenerbahce read.

“The assistant to the manager will be Gokhan Gonlu, one of our previous captains, who wore our yellow and navy jersey for several years and has signed a two-year contract.

“Details regarding the signing ceremony of our new technical staff will be shared in due course.”
