WASHINGTON (TNND) — Right now, lawmakers in Washington, D.C. have a chance to stop billions of taxpayer dollars from funding organizations in China and Russia.
China and Russia received more than $1.3 billion taxpayer dollars for various projects over a 5-year period, according to government watchdog group Open the Books — and that’s only what was listed on the books.
Rachel O’Brien, who is the deputy public policy editor for Openthebooks.com, said the U.S. gave Russia $870 million from 2017 to 2023. She said most of it — $771 million – went to the National Aeronautics and Space Administration, which is commonly known as NASA, to help with Russia’s space agency.
She said another $42 million was from our state department.
As for China, O’Brien said that nation received $490 million. Of that, $64 million was from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, or HHS, for research, with another $59 million from the state department for research, and $2 million to the Wuhan Institute of Virology.
We know who they are — they are the creator of COVID-19,” O’Brien said, adding that the U.S. Department of Defense also sent China $59 million.
