Zendaya & Robert Pattinson’s The Drama Reviews Get Worse RT Score Than Director’s Last Movie

The Drama reviews are officially in, and although both Zendaya and Robert Pattinson are getting praised for their upcoming A24 movie, it is scoring slowly lower than the director’s last film.

What are The Drama reviews saying?

On Rotten Tomatoes, The Drama debuted to an 82% score, a high mark for the review aggregator for any movie. While the score is high, it is slightly lower than director Kristioffer Borgli’s previous movie, the Nicolas Cage-led Dream Scenario. That movie debuted to a 91%.

Despite the lower score, sentiments around The Drama still seem overwhelmingly positive.

TheWrap’s William Bibbiani praised the movie, calling it “disquieting, and even though it’s also riveting, it’s difficult to shake the sense that everyone is getting away with something they shouldn’t.”

IndieWire’s David Ehrlich also had good things to say about the movie, noting “Hell is always other people in Borgli’s films, and this one — if thinner and more rhetorical than his others — stands out for how sharply it details the freefall down from heaven.”

USA Today’s Brian Truitt called it “One of the boldest, brashest movies in some time… When not giddily tearing apart the rom-com, Borgli asks really major thematic questions with his controversial subject matter.”

ComingSoon’s Jonathan Sim also praised the movie, saying it “strays from anything resembling a traditional romantic comedy. And yet, by the time it reaches its conclusion, it manages to find something strangely sincere within all the awkwardness and unease. It’s not the love story you’d expect, but it’s one you’ll never forget.”

The synopsis for the film teases “A couple faces a crisis in the days leading up to their wedding when unexpected revelations derail what one of them thought they knew about the other,” with the trailer for the film teasing the couple getting into some heated issues.

Alongside Pattinson and Zendaya, The Drama will also star Mamoudou Athie, Alana Haim, Hailey Gates, and Zoë Winters. Aside from Pattinson and Zendaya, though, everyone’s roles in the film are unknown.

The Drama is written and directed by Kristoffer Borgli. The filmmaker is best known for his work on 2023’s Nicolas Cage-led acclaimed satirical dramedy Dream Scenario. Joining Pattinson and Zendaya are Mamoudou Athie (Jurassic World: Dominion), Alana Haim (Licorice Pizza), Hailey Gates (Marty Supreme), Michael Abbott Jr. (Killers of the Flower Moon), Sydney Lemmon (Helstrom), YaYa Gosseli (We Can Be Heroes), Peyton Jackson (First Christmas), and more.
