The British Home Office says visitors from 85 different countries, including Canada, will not be able to travel to the UK without Electronic Travel Authorisation under changes that come into effect in February.
That means that anyone who does not require a visa, must have digital permission to get into the U.K.
Electronic Travel Authorisation, or ETAs, were rolled out by the United Kingdom in 2023, but haven’t been strictly enforced, allowing visitors to adjust to the new requirement.
It’s similar to changes made recently in Canada and in the United States.
Anyone planning a trip to the U.K. must apply for an ETA ahead of time, although British and Irish citizens, and those with dual citizenship, are exempt from the requirement.
