And … breathe. After the celebrations for New Year’s Eve, Lunar New Year and Valentine’s Day, we’ve hit the time of year when our calendars finally calm down a little – and bars and restaurants take a break from the holiday madness.
That said, menus and special dinners are still aplenty – but instead of calendar-led themes, chefs typically turn to highlighting unique flavours and ingredients. Here are four creative weekend dinners to send February off, encompassing everything from locally grown produce to Chinese wines.
Friday, February 21
Celebrating its first anniversary, Sushi Zinc executive chef Zing Leung has created a special dinner menu titled “An Omakase Voyage of Local Bounty: First Anniversary Edition” in partnership with local suppliers.
With 90 per cent of ingredients sourced locally, the menu highlights the freshness and vibrancy of local seafood and vegetables from Hong Kong farm Hydrogro in dishes like the thorny oyster nigiri – a rare delicacy with a unique blend of brininess and sweetness, and known for its notoriously challenging harvesting process. Guests are also served a welcome drink of sparkling tea from Hong Kong company Mindful Sparks.
