Why Bridgerton Fans Are Wondering if Francesca Is Pregnant

Following the release of Season 4 Part 2, Bridgerton fans are curious to know whether Francesca is pregnant. While the character was sure she was carrying John Stirling’s child, she had to undergo invasive procedures to confirm it. So, what did the results say?

Here are all the details.

Is Francesca pregnant in Bridgerton Season 4 Part 2?

Bridgerton Season 4 Part 2 premiered on February 26, 2026. At the end of Episode 6, “The Passing Winter,” a tragedy struck the Bridgerton family—John Stirling’s sudden demise. After what seemed like a small headache, Francesca found her husband unresponsive in bed later that evening. It turns out that he died from an aneurysm.

Amid the grief in Episode 7, “The Beyond,” Francesca missed her period, leading her to believe that she is with child. She reveals it to Penelope and Eloise, saying that John left her with a “gift, a piece of himself.” Francesca compares her situation to that of her mother, Violet, who was pregnant with Hyacinth after their father, Edmund, died.

When the time comes to verify her beliefs, Francesca refuses to undergo any procedures. But the House of Lords representative presses on the matter, saying that it is what society demands. She reluctantly agrees to confirm the news. After a very invasive procedure, the doctor reveals that Francesca is not pregnant.

This is quite different from what happens in the books. In the novel, When He Was Wicked, Francesca becomes pregnant but ultimately miscarries. Either way, the situation emotionally breaks the character and the rest of the family.

In an interview with Tudum, Hannah Dodd, who portrays Francesca, spoke about her character’s thought process. Talking about the pregnancy, she said, “That gives Francesca something to hold onto, which is so devastating that she’s convinced herself of that. She’s like, ‘I’m going to be OK because I’ve still got a piece of John. That’s what mum had. I know that she’s OK, so that means I’ll be OK.”

“Then she realizes that she doesn’t have that,” Dodd added.

All eight episodes of Bridgerton Season 4 are now streaming on Netflix.
