Two English Premier League clubs heading in different directions meet up on Wednesday in London, as Crystal Palace gets set to host Aston Villa.
At one point, Crystal Palace looked like it was going to be one of the most pleasant surprises in the EPL this year. The team had picked up points in five of its first six league matches, and was in the upper half of the table when December began. However, things have taken a downturn for the Eagles. Along with losing to Newcastle United this past Sunday, Crystal Palace has gone unbeaten in five consecutive EPL matches, picking up one point over that span.
Aston Villa is maintaining its spot near the top of the table. Despite losing to league-leading Arsenal in its last contest of 2025, the Lions responded with a strong 3-1 victory over Nottingham Forest on Saturday, giving the club nine wins over their past 10 matches in league play, and 12 of its past 13 overall.
Villa enters Wednesday third in the table, six points back of Arsenal, while Crystal Palace is down in 14th, but just four points back of fifth.
