Tyler Perry’s New Blumhouse Thriller Gets Release Date & Streamer

A new psychological thriller backed by Tyler Perry and Blumhouse Productions is gearing up for release. With a strong cast and festival debut locked in, the project is now set for streaming this summer.

Strung sets June release date on Peacock

The film, Strung, directed by Malcolm D. Lee, will first premiere at the 30th American Black Film Festival in Miami Beach. After that debut, it heads straight to streaming on Peacock on June 26, Variety reported. The festival itself runs from May 27 to May 31 and celebrates three decades of spotlighting Black talent in film.

Leading the story is Chloe Bailey, who plays a gifted violinist. Her character takes on a high-profile tutoring job with a wealthy and mysterious family. What starts as a career opportunity quickly turns into something darker, as she finds herself caught in a tense psychological struggle for control and survival. The supporting cast includes Anna Diop, Lynn Whitfield, Lucien Laviscount, and Coco Jones. Their involvement suggests the film will lean on character tension alongside its thriller elements.

While Perry is not directing the movie, he is one of several producers, alongside Jason Blum and others. The script comes from Alan McElroy, known for crafting intense, character-driven stories. McElroy is mainly known for working closely with Todd McFarlane on the Spawn series and for writing horror movies like Halloween 4: The Return of Michael Myers and Wrong Turn. The production is handled by Peachtree & Vine and Blumhouse. Further, additional backing comes from Blackmaled Productions.

Festival organizers also highlighted the film’s importance to this year’s lineup. Nicole Friday, president of Nice Crowd, said Lee’s return “feels especially right for this moment,” tying into the event’s “Homecoming” theme. “It’s a special way to open the festival in Miami Beach as we mark this milestone,” he continued.

With a high-profile premiere and a quick turnaround to streaming, Strung is positioned to reach a wide audience soon after its debut.
