Tropical storm Mitag nears Macau with signal no. 3 likely Friday morning

The tropical storm, Mitag, is moving northwest toward
eastern Guangdong and gaining intensity, updated the Meteorological and
Geophysical Bureau, saying that it is likely to edge within 200 kilometres of
Macau on Friday (19 September).

The weather forecaster said on Thursday that because the
storm appears small and its path remains uncertain, there is a ‘medium to relatively
high’ chance that the Tropical Cyclone Signal No. 3 will be issued early
tomorrow morning.

The risk of flooding from storm surge is low for now, so the
Blue Storm Surge Warning is unlikely, it added.

Starting tomorrow, Macau will see more rain and stronger winds.
The bureau also alerted that on Saturday and Sunday (20 and 21 September), residents
would find themselves bracing for heavy showers, thunderstorms, and gusty
winds.
