Thatcham and Newbury residents upset over Damson closure

Damson, which served Thatcham and Newbury locals fine-dining cuisine, will now be closed to customers, with all bookings cancelled after yesterday, Friday, September 12.

Since news broke, customers have been commenting well wishes on the Damson Restaurant Facebook page.

One person said, “Gutted. You did an incredible job at Damson, Henry, and Joe’s. Sensational food and an exceptional experience.

“I pray you resurface in a kitchen locally soon, as you have such an unbelievable talent. Best of luck with the next chapter, Henry!”

Another person wrote, “So very sad to hear your news. We loved our visits, not only for the amazing food but also for the fantastic team you had.

“Every single person went out of their way to make each visit perfect and were friendly, professional, and knowledgeable. Thank you all for creating such a special place.”

A further person commented, “Both Henry and Joe’s and The Damson were phenomenal experiences, and I have no doubt your next adventure will be too.

“Wishing you the best of luck, and looking forward to supporting you when you choose your next path.”

Head chef and owner Henry Kremer-Ireson posted the news on social media on Thursday, September 11.

“It is with a heavy heart that I must announce the closure of Damson, with immediate effect. This affects all bookings from 12th September 2025,” Mr Kremer-Ireson said.

“Whilst this may come as a shock, it’s after much consideration and extensive efforts to explore alternative options, regrettably, the decision has been made that we are unable to continue forward, driven by several financial and external factors.

“I want to express, on behalf of the entire Damson team, our deepest thanks for your incredible support and loyalty over the past two years. You have been the heart of our restaurant; it has been a great privilege to serve you all.”

Damson served top-quality dishes each week from Thursday through to Sunday, with prices sitting at £65 for three courses.

They also offered an extensive tasting menu, which guests could enjoy for £95.
