At least 24 flights between Hong Kong and Taiwan have been cancelled due to approaching Super Typhoon Kong-rey, which is expected to be 500km from the city later this week.
According to the Hong Kong Observatory, Kong-rey will move towards Taiwan on Wednesday and pass over the island’s central and southern parts on Thursday. It will come within 800km of Hong Kong on Thursday morning and be 500km from the city in the next couple of days.
While the Observatory said the super typhoon would not have a severe impact on Hong Kong, air travel has been disrupted.
Cathay said it had informed affected passengers about rescheduling their flights.
“Affected passengers can rebook without additional charges or request a full refund for the unused sectors, according to the offer provided,” the company said. “Passengers also have the option to reroute to other destinations within Taiwan, China, without additional charges. The change is subject to seat availability.”
