Stephen Curry is nearing a return to action for the Golden State Warriors, but his latest headline comes off the court. The two-time NBA MVP has teamed up with legendary investor Warren Buffett and author Ayesha Curry for a high-profile charity initiative set to draw global attention.

Buffett is reviving his long-running charity lunch auction, a philanthropic event that has raised more than $50 million over the past two decades. This year’s edition, titled “A Seat at the Table,” will feature Curry and Ayesha Curry as co-hosts, marking a new phase for the fundraiser.

“This event is about coming together again in a new way with people I admire, to support work that truly matters,” Buffett said in a statement. “Partnering with Stephen and Ayesha… is something I’m very happy to be part of.”

The collaboration brings together one of the NBA’s most recognizable figures and one of the world’s most prominent investors, with proceeds benefiting the GLIDE Foundation and the Currys’ Eat. Learn. Play. Foundation.

The auction will take place online through eBay, opening May 7 at 7:30 p.m. PDT and closing May 14. The winning bidder will receive an invitation for up to eight people to attend an exclusive lunch with Buffett and the Currys in Omaha, Nebraska, on June 24.

The event continues a tradition that began in 2000 and has consistently drawn high bids from investors and philanthropists. The final auction in 2022 reached $19 million, bringing the total raised for charity to more than $50 million.

This year’s proceeds will be split evenly between GLIDE, a San Francisco-based nonprofit providing meals, shelter, healthcare services, and job training, and Eat. Learn. Play.

Curry highlighted the initiative’s importance, noting its broader impact beyond fundraising. “The amount of money that it will raise is amazing, but more so, it’s the awareness of the work that needs to continue to be done,” he said.

Beyond the auction, Curry also noted a personal element to the collaboration. He joked about potentially teaching Buffett how to shoot a basketball during the Omaha meeting, adding a lighter note to the event.

The Currys’ foundation focuses on childhood literacy, nutrition, and physical activity, particularly in underserved communities in Oakland. Since its launch, the organization has supported programs ranging from tutoring and meal distribution to the development of safe play spaces.

Buffett’s connection to GLIDE dates back decades, influenced by his late wife, Susan, who volunteered with the organization. The charity has remained central to his philanthropic efforts, with the annual lunch becoming one of the most recognized fundraising events globally.

After stepping away from the auction in 2022, Buffett returned to the initiative following the passing of GLIDE founder Cecil Williams, reaffirming his commitment to the organization’s mission.

“Over the years, I’ve seen how the business community and innovative nonprofits can work together to create real change,” Buffett said.

The addition of Curry and his wife introduces a new dimension to the event, combining Buffett’s philanthropic reach with the Currys’ influence in sports and community development.

The partnership reflects a broader intersection between sports, business, and philanthropy. While Curry continues his recovery from a knee injury and targets a return to the court, his off-court work remains active.

As the Warriors prepare for a critical stretch of the season, Curry’s involvement in the auction underscores his expanding role beyond basketball, aligning with initiatives focused on community impact and long-term development.
