A 92-year-old man is facing charges in a car-pedestrian accident on Wattsburg Road in Greene Township Nov. 8 that injured a fire policeman directing traffic at a gun raffle, according to the Pennsylvania State Police.
The driver, who had not been charged as of Nov. 13, is accused of striking a member of the Kuhl Hose Co. fire police who was directing traffic for the volunteer department’s annual Sportsman’s Raffle, state police reported Nov. 13. The 54-year-old man was taken to UPMC Hamot for nonlife-threatening injuries, according to state police and information Kuhl Hose posted on Facebook.
The accident was reported shortly after 6 p.m. Nov. 8. According to information in a news release state police issued Nov. 13, the fire policeman was in the roadway, wearing a reflective vest and holding a lighted wand, as he was directing traffic in the northbound lane at the westernmost exit at Saint Boniface Church, 9367 Wattsburg Road. Kuhl Hose was holding its Sportsman’s Raffle at the Saint Boniface Center, according to information on its Facebook page.
State police said the 92-year-old man, who was driving a Nissan Rogue, left the east exit of the church and turned onto the northbound lane of Wattsburg Road when he hit the fire policeman, knocking the man into the air. The driver stopped and got out of his vehicle, then got back in and left heading north before arriving at his home, troopers reported.
The man did not report the accident and did not provide any aid to the injured fire policeman, according to state police.
The man was located at his home, and minor front-end damage was seen on his vehicle, state police reported Nov. 13.
