Starbucks isn’t just giving away free coffee on Monday, Feb. 9. The coffeehouse chain is debuting a new coffee blend that honors its beginning.
Free coffee? Yes, members of the Starbucks Rewards loyalty program can get a free tall 12-ounce iced or brewed coffee on Monday, Feb. 9, with the purchase of a qualifying drink of equal or greater value (excludes ready-to-drink and alcohol beverages).
Also on that day, Starbucks will debut a new Starbucks 1971 Roast, so named for the year in which the coffee chain’s first location opened in Seattle’s Pike Place Market.
The new coffee, which will be available as an everyday brewed coffee and in take-home package, “is like nothing we created before. You get this super complex and bold coffee, and then it finishes very smoothly and velvety. It’s the best of two worlds,” said Starbucks coffee developer Sergio Alvarez, who joined the company as a part-time barista in 2009 at the Pike Place Market store, in a news release.
New Starbucks pastries hit the menu
Starbucks recently added four new beverages to its menu, including Iced Banana Bread Matcha and Strawberry Shortcake Frappuccino.
Available starting Monday, Feb. 9, are six new pastries including a Dubai Chocolate Bite, a tart made from a chocolate shortbread crust filled with pistachio cream, then finished with a chocolate drizzle and pistachio crumbles. That pastry and four others will be available year-round, while the sixth, the Chocolate Pistachio Loaf, is available for a limited time this winter.
