Sportdigital to show Turkish Super Cup in Germany

January 6 – With Turks currently forming one of the largest minority ethnic groups in Germany, it comes as no surprise that Sportdigital has secured last-minute rights to the Turkish Super Cup.

All matches will be shown on the linear Sportdigital1+ channel. The four-team competition brings together Galatasaray, Fenerbahçe, Samsunspor, and Trabzonspor, with two semi-finals followed by the final on January 10.

This deal reflects how sports broadcasters are increasingly aligning acquisitions with the cultural makeup of their domestic audiences, recognising that diverse populations often maintain strong ties to football beyond national borders.

The tournament carries familiar faces for German viewers with Galatasaray’s squad including Germany internationals, Leroy Sané alongside İlkay Gündoğan, who is of Turkish descent, while Samsunspor are coached by German manager Thomas Reis.

Historically, Turkish football has had limited visibility on German television, despite decades of demand. RTL has regularly included leading Turkish clubs in its UEFA Europa League coverage, while DAZN has introduced Turkish-language commentary for selected club and national team matches.
