Souness urges Premier League starlets to make the most of Hong Kong visit – like he did

Former Liverpool manager and captain Graeme Souness has urged rising English Premier League stars to get the most out of their trip to Hong Kong this week – as he did years ago.

This weekend, Hong Kong will welcome academy players from English top-flight quintet Aston Villa, Brighton & Hove Albion, Leicester City, Newcastle United and West Ham United for the HKFC Standard Chartered Soccer Sevens.

Souness, who visited Hong Kong in 1977 with Middlesbrough and then returned six years later with Liverpool, is back for the seven-a-side football tournament.

A league title winner in Scotland and England, the former midfielder also enjoyed stints in Canada, Australia and Italy.

“This is a great part of their education,” Souness said. “Just seeing a different part of the world, just seeing a different culture, seeing how people behave.

“Just the whole experience of being in Hong Kong for these young men will be fabulous. Certainly when I was younger, I saw it all as part of my education.
