Smiling Friends‘ co-creator Michael Cusack recently provided an update on Season 4, hinting that development on the next installment is already underway. The creator briefly discussed the show’s progress during a recent interview, sparking anticipation among fans.

Michael Cusack reveals they have written scripts for new episodes of Smiling Friends

Michael Cusack has confirmed that work on future episodes of Smiling Friends is underway, offering an early update on Season 4 during a recent interview with The Hollywood Reporter. The co-creator was asked, “Have you written new episodes yet?” Cusack stated that the team has made significant headway. He said, “We’ve written two scripts. We’ve got a third in the making. Super happy with it so far. It’s always fun to jump back into getting fresh again with ideas.”

During the same interview, Cusack also reflected on completing the latest season and the lessons the team carried forward. He said, “We’ve finally gotten to the point where it’s coming out more naturally. Scripts can flow out easier. What I want to take away for the future seasons is, no matter how big the show gets or how much spotlight is on the scripts, I do want to always keep in mind just to have fun with Zach [Hadel] with writing.”

Co-creator Zach Hadel also highlighted the unique challenges presented by the second season. He added, “[For season three,] we hit a stride in the way that we understand the characters better, and I like that every episode’s different.”

The update arrives shortly after the third season of Smiling Friends concluded on November 30, 2025. The finale centered on Glep, marking the end of an eight-episode run. It follows Charlie and Pim, two employees of a small company dedicated to helping people find happiness.

Since its debut in 2022, Smiling Friends has developed a strong following on Adult Swim. The network has already granted the series a two-season renewal.
