Who needs the Met Gala when there’s a fashion show this Friday, May 9, at Mount Mary University?
The annual CREO (Latin for “to make, create or produce”) celebration of student art and design is back at the university. This year’s theme is “Urban Oasis,” highlighting the dichotomy of the city: industrial and constructed, and the nature that surrounds it, organic and untamed.
Student designers will debut a variety of collections merging structured silhouettes with natural textures and flair. Experimental “zero-waste” projects add an element of sustainability to the show.
The show will also feature a collaborative project with Wisconsin Sea Grant, an organization dedicated to eliminating plastic waste from waterways. This was made possible by a grant from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration.
See the work of young designers with the work from the winners of the annual Uniquely Yours contest, challenging high school students to “upcycle” materials into runway garments.
Catch these fresh looks come down the runway this Friday at 1 p.m., 5 p.m. or 7:30 p.m. at Mount Mary’s Bergstrom Hall. Tickets are available online.
