The founder of Amazon, Jeff Bezos, shared his vision about how life will be in the future. According to him, the combination of artificial intelligence and space exploration will completely transform the way in which we live, work, and move. Bezos believes that, in the next few decades, humanity will experience some changes that today seem something out of a science-fiction movie. For him, the Earth is not enough for ambitious millionaires around the world: people like Elon Musk, who is obsessed with space explorations, and Jeff Bezos himself, interested in artificial intelligence transforming life. Both of them are looking beyond our planet, so let’s see what the future could be.
Robots
During an event in the Italian Tech Week, Jeff Bezos explained that by 2045 robots will do most of the jobs we do today like everyday and professional tasks. According to Bezos, this will change the way in which we live: commuting to work may disappear entirely, as machines take over many tasks. This could free up time for people and completely change the traditional workweek.
Human life in space
Jeff Bezos also suggests that in the next few decades there will be millions of people living in space. However, he clarifies that this won’t be a need, but a choice. People could move to other planets because they want to explore, not because they have to do it.
Apart from Jeff Bezos…
Jeff Bezos isn’t only one thinking about a future out of Earth, there are other technology leaders who also have shared their ideas. So, let’s see what they have to say:
- Sam Altman, founder of OpenAI, believes that in the next ten years, there will be new, exciting, and high-paying jobs in space. He notes that what seems groundbreaking today will soon appear “old-fashioned” compared to opportunities available to younger generations.
- Elon Musk, founder of SpaceX, predicts that humans will reach Mars around 2028, with unmanned rockets starting launches as soon as next year.
- Bill Gates, co-founder of Microsoft, has a more Earth-centered perspective. He believes that humanity should focus on solving problems on our planet first, before seeking new worlds. Nevertheless, Gates acknowledges that artificial intelligence could transform work life by reducing the standard workweek to two days, giving people more free time.
Combining artificial intelligence and space
The key point that Bezos shared was that artificial intelligence and space exploration will work together to change human life. While robots do most jobs, people will have more time to spend on what they like, including the possibility of living and working on other planets.
This view shows a future in which daily life on Earth will deeply change since we wouldn’t have to do repetitive tasks or commute to work. Instead smart machines will do all those things and we would look at the stars and think if we would like to live in space.
So…
Of course the future is going to be closer to what we have seen in some science-fiction movies than we expect, but what Jeff Bezos and other millionaires suggest it’s kind of crazy to think about, don’t you think? Sure, it seems like an exciting idea, will we be prepared to be replaced that much by machines and be left to do almost nothing? We’ll see what will happen in 2045, but having in mind how fast artificial intelligence is spreading, it’s not strange that all these ideas become a reality by then.
What do you think? Is living in space a dream of yours? I’m sure it’s for many people, and I bet they must be so excited about these predictions about the future.
