Reports: Elon Musk dumps $10 million into PAC supporting Kentucky U.S. Senate candidate

Elon Musk has cut a large check to one Kentucky Republican looking to replace U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell.

LOUISVILLE, Ky. — The world’s richest person is backing one candidate in Kentucky’s upcoming election to replace U.S. Sen. Mitch McConnell.

Elon Musk, owner of Tesla and X, made a $10 million donation to the Fight for Kentucky super PAC last week, according to reports from Axios and the New York Times

The super PAC is a major supporter of Republican U.S. Senate candidate Nate Morris, Axios reported.

“During a recent conversation with Morris,” the report said, “Musk came away impressed with Morris’ business background and anti-establishment message. Musk also liked that Morris, a ninth-generation Kentuckian, is presenting himself as anti-McConnell, according to a person familiar with the conversation.”

Axios also reported that Musk is close with Vice President JD Vance, “who counts Morris as a personal friend.”

Who is Nate Morris?

Morris, Lexington businessman, views himself as a “political outsider” and someone he believes Trump “likes to empower.”

“I think it’s people who comes from the outside, and its people who have business backgrounds,” Morris told WHAS11 last July.

Morris once interned for McConnell’s office for three months, but he has been a harsh critic of the 83-year-old Senator.

“For the last decade, Mitch McConnell has really let Kentucky down, let America down, and most importantly, let down President Trump,” he previously told WHAS11. “The fact that he is going up there and subverting the President’s agenda and continuing to sabotage it over and over again, I said, we’ve had enough.”

Kentucky Senate candidates

Morris is one of three Republicans looking to take McConnell’s seat in Congress.

Former state Attorney General Daniel Cameron and Congressman Andy Barr (KY-06) are also running.

President Donald Trump has yet to back any of the GOP candidates in Kentucky’s Senate race.

There’s also several Democrats looking to replace McConnell including State Rep. Pamela Stevenson, former State Rep. Charles Booker, retired Marine fighter pilot Amy McGrath, Lexington attorney Logan Forsythe, longtime horse trainer Dale Romans, and Vincent Thompson.

Kentucky’s 2026 primary election is May 19.
