BLOOMINGTON, Ill. (KPTV) – The Linfield Wildcats saw their record-setting 2025 season come to a close on Sunday, falling to Trine University 10-9 in walk-off fashion in the semifinal round of the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Finals.
Despite holding three separate leads of three runs against the Trine Thunder, and leading 9-6 heading to the bottom of the seventh, the Wildcats allowed three runs in the seventh to send the game to extra-innings.

After Linfield failed to score in the top of the eighth, the Thunder earned the walk-off win in the bottom of the frame on a sacrifice fly from Jo Trine.
The Wildcats finished the season with a 45-7 record, and set the NCAA Division III single-season record with 108 home runs, breaking their own record from the 2011 national championship team.
Linfield appeared in the NCAA Division III Softball Championship Finals for the third consecutive season, matching a program-best for a three-year run.
