Real Madrid to miss out on long-term transfer target

La Liga giants Real Madrid are set to miss out on a transfer target long tipped for a summer move to Spain’s capital.

The player in question? Ibrahima Konaté.

Stopper Konaté has of course seen his name linked with that of Real Madrid for the best part of the last year.

This comes after widespread reports were forthcoming in the media, highlighting the Frenchman as a leading figure on Los Blancos’ shortlist of defensive transfer targets.

Konaté is as things stand due to see his contract terms with Liverpool expire in the summer, meaning he is available for negotiations over a free transfer away from Anfield.

If the latest word stemming from the press on Thursday is anything to go by, however, then the 26-year-old’s future looks set to be imminently defined.

As per a report from journalist Fabrizio Romano:

‘Liverpool are now closer to reaching full agreement with Ibrahima Konaté over new contract. Not done yet but Liverpool are confident.’
