Real Madrid midfielder Eduardo Camavinga is unsettled due to a lack of minutes and could look to accept one of several offers during the summer transfer window, a report has claimed.
Camavinga, now 23, was the most-wanted player around when he joined Madrid in the summer of 2021, but he has struggled to assert himself as anything more than a squad player due to the immense competition at the Bernabéu.
This season, Camavinga has made 34 appearances across all competitions, 19 of which have come as a starter, Versatility has seen him deployed anywhere from left back to winger. According to AS, a limited number of opportunities to be a midfield playmaker have left Camavinga contemplating a summer exit.
Madrid are known to be chasing a midfielder capable of orchestrating the team in the image of departed legends Luka Modrić or Toni Kroos, and Camavinga believes he has not been given a fair chance to prove his abilities in that role.
The uncertainty has piqued the interest of Paris Saint-Germain, against whom he had his breakout performance for Rennes at the start of the 2018–19 season, while several unnamed Premier League clubs are said to be ready to make offers.
Would Real Madrid Sell Camavinga?
Camavinga finds himself in a tricky situation at Real Madrid, where he is incredibly valuable and yet appears to have hit a ceiling on his role in the squad.
The midfielder is capable of playing nearly everywhere on the pitch at a high level, making him the ideal plug-and-play option for most managers who have gleefully turned to Camavinga in an emergency at left back or in attack. Clubs adore those kinds of players.
Unfortunately for Camavinga, it seems as though he is not particularly happy with that glowing reputation.
When coming through at Rennes, Camavinga was a deep-lying playmaker capable of disrupting in defense and creating in attack. It is clear he still sees himself as that player even if those in the dugout disagree.
This puts Madrid in a tricky position. Losing someone of Camavinga’s reliable versatility would be a huge blow, but keeping an unsettled player can create wider problems behind the scenes.
Ultimately, Camavinga is under contract with Madrid until 2029, giving them complete control over his future and the ability to demand a significant fee for a player who is still widely accepted to be one of the best young midfielders around.
The sort of suitors being mentioned—PSG’s interest is concrete and reports elsewhere have named Manchester United, Liverpool and Chelsea among his English admirers—can afford to meet those demands in a summer in which midfielders are likely to take the spotlight.
Cashing in may impact Madrid’s squad depth, but it would also open the door to potential reinvestment in a squad which has clearly fallen short of expectations this season.
