The government set to host more than 400 celebratory events across various sectors to commemorate the 75th anniversary of National Day. These events will include a citywide MTR fare discount.
The MTR Corporation is offering a 25 percent fare discount for every ride, including cross-boundary trips, on October 1 to celebrate National Day and the 45th anniversary of metro service commencement.
Passengers can enjoy the discount using Octopus cards on the MTR network, Light Rail, and MTR Bus services.
Trams and cross-harbor ferries will be free of charge, and children will also enjoy free bus rides on most routes. From September 30 to October 2, the public can ride the Star Ferry between Tsim Sha Tsui, Wan Chai, and Central for free.
On Tuesday (Oct 1), 59 cinemas throughout Hong Kong will offer half-price tickets, regardless of the screening format or cinema hall, including IMAX, with over 80 movies to be screened.
Children, the elderly, and students who already enjoy a discount will receive an additional 50 percent off their ticket price.
All citizens who purchase tickets on that day will be eligible to participate in a lucky draw, with ten major prizes including the giveaway of 75 tickets. The total prize pool includes over 2,000 gifts.
In celebration of the 75th anniversary of the founding of the People’s Republic of China, two designated Mark Six snowball draws — each come with first prize winnings of HK$75 million — will be held on October 2 and 8.
Various eateries will also provide a 30 percent discount on all meals or designated meals, or allow customers to purchase additional food items at a reduced price for the National Day holiday.
The Federation of Hong Kong, Kowloon, and New Territories Hawker Associations has announced that nearly 100 markets, hawker zones, and stores in Hong Kong, totaling 12,000 stalls and stores, will offer a 25 percent discount on select products.
These include Iberico pig, which is 25 percent off, grass carp, priced as low as HK$25 per catty, two-dish rice meals on sale for HK$30, etc.
The Food and Environmental Hygiene Department will distribute free gifts at its cooked food markets, public markets, hawker markets, and designated hawker areas in Hong Kong and Kowloon.
