Premier League odds, picks, and best bet

Manchester United will look to extend its unbeaten run to 10 games in a trip to Merseyside on Monday afternoon.

The Red Devils, who saw their four-match winning streak come undone in a 1-1 draw against West Ham two weeks ago, are an odds-on favorite to get all three points on the road against Everton in the final contest of Matchweek 27.

Everton defeated Manchester United, 1-0, in their first meeting back in November.

Everton vs. Manchester United odds, prediction

Manchester United has looked like a revived club under interim manager Michael Carrick. The Red Devils are 4-1-0 (W-D-L) under the 44-year-old and have captured victories over Arsenal and Manchester City in that span.

There is no indication from the club about whether or not they’ll hire Carrick full-time, but it will be hard for them to go in a different direction if he continues this form. A win over Everton would vault Man United into fourth place, three points behind third-place Aston Villa.

Everton won’t be an easy out, however.

The Toffees have turned into a prickly bunch during David Moyes’ second stint on Merseyside, and, like any Moyes team, they are quite adept at playing the underdog role.

Everton’s record (10 wins, nine losses, and seven draws), goal difference, and expected goal data paint them as a mediocre Premier League outfit, but that mediocrity is more about overall squad depth than the talent level of its ideal starting XI.

We won’t see that version of the Toffees on Saturday because Jack Grealish is hurt and Jake O’Brien is suspended, but we’ll get pretty close. And their biggest issue, a lack of scoring punch, may improve with the arrival of Tyrique George.

George joins an attack that already featured Iliman Ndiaye, Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, and Thierno Barry, giving the Toffees a variety of options to put pressure on a Manchester United defense that showed some cracks in recent matches against Fulham and West Ham.

Manchester United has been involved in some high-event contests since Carrick took over, but that would be a dangerous game to play against Everton, a side that is built to play counter-attacking soccer.

The Red Devils are in good form and deserve to be the favorite, but this price feels more like an overreaction to recent results than a fair representation of Everton’s chances of pulling the upset at home.
