Police fired live rounds to subdue a knife-wielding man at Tuen Mun Town Plaza on Thursday, police have told HKFP. The suspect later died in hospital.

The incident occurred at around 7:13pm, police added.

Online footage appears to show the suspect brandishing the blade on a sidewalk before turning towards the mall, causing people to flee.

Several gunshots are then heard as police subdue him.

The man was sent to Tuen Mun Hospital in an unconscious state, police said. The Hospital Authority told HKFP he was declared dead at 8:47pm.

The cause of the incident is, as yet, unknown.
