Google has rolled out a new camera to the NotebookLM app that lets you quickly upload images and use them as sources.
NotebookLM for Android and iOS primarily started as a way to listen to Audio Overviews on the go. Updates last month introduced flashcards and quizzes that are well suited for mobile.
The NotebookLM app now has a camera to use images as sources alongside text, audio, videos, websites, and files, like PDFs. On the homepage and in the Sources tab, it’s available as a FAB (floating action button). This opens your device’s camera UI to add handwritten notes, whiteboards, printed handouts, infographics, and more.
Meanwhile, “Add a source” gets a new Image button to browse your local photo library, including screenshots. This first rolled out to the web in mid-November, and is now seeing wide availability in the Android and iOS apps. Force stop the app to trigger the server-side update.
Meanwhile, most of the mobile features that Google announced last month are widely available. This includes flashcards, quizzes, and unselecting sources (go to the Chat tab for a bottom-right corner dropdown). However, shared chat history across sessions does not appear to be widely available yet on Android and iOS.
In other developments, Google this week brought back Infographics and Slides for free users and Pro subscribers.
